College of Art & Design

It is a great pleasure to welcome you to the College of Art and Design (CAD) at the Royal University for Women (RUW). The CAD currently includes two department that offers a choice of undergraduate programs and two post graduate programs that aim at unearthing the designer in you. Following one year of Edexcel BTEC Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Art & Design, accredited by Pearson, UK, the Design department offers three Bachelor of Art degrees (3 years of study): in Graphic Design, Interior Design and Fashion Design. The Architecture Department offers a five-year Bachelor of Art in Architectural Design. The two post-graduate (two years of study) programs are designed to set a theoretical and practical platform in Design Management or in Drawing and Painting providing the opportunity to pursue higher studies in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

CAD aims at equipping its students with the best possible skills, tools, and knowledge, while encouraging them to adopt innovative approaches to the multitude of design problems and challenges of today’s world, from the social, to the cultural, the environmental and the economic. Moreover, CAD at RUW is student-centered where faculty members alternate between the roles of instructor, and facilitator, striving to externalize students’ individual professional personality. Interaction between students and faculty members is built upon respect, objectivity, and constructive criticism. At CAD, we encourage evidence-based and user-centered approaches to solving design problems, uplifted by ethical practices.  This is to make sure that first-class educations meeting simultaneously local, regional, and international standards is offered, faculty members continuously undergo research, in addition to self and professional development. Moreover, CAD at RUW built itself a high reputation in the local academic arena, through its continuous review of programs and by endeavoring for regional and international recognition through internal and external quality assurance of its academic programs. Moreover, highly qualified local, regional and international faculty members comprising PhD holders and professionals with practical experience are supported by high quality infrastructure consisting of professional studios and very well stocked library.

Finally, while I hope we will be able to meet in person and resume traditional learning, I invite you to consider the challenges of the current COVID-19 pandemic as an opportunity to learn together, to develop creative and innovative ways of working and to grow our ability to adapt, in the same way that we often need to in problem solving through design.
