College of Art & Design - Profile
The College of Art and Design is home to some of the most exciting academic programmes at the Royal University for Women. Whether someone is interested in Art or Design, the College and staff will help them achieve their goals. The programmes and practices are designed to meet international standards and prepare the graduates to become leaders who are engaged members of their society, demonstrating initiative and life-long habits of learning and individual development. The College of Art and Design offers a Foundation course in Art and Design and the BA programme with three specialisations, namely Fashion Design, Interior Design, and Graphic Design. In addition, at the postgraduate level, the College offers two programmes; Master of Design management and Master of Fine Art in Drawing & Painting.
Pearson BTEC RQF Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Art, Design & Media Practice:
The Foundation Course is a one-year level 3 Programme designed to provide a transition into higher education. This is planned to help the students discover and demonstrate their abilities: knowledge, practical skills, imagination and maturity of ideas and their power of critical judgment. These abilities, as they develop, will be helped by the broad-based lectures and seminars on subjects common to all art and design studies. This all helps the students to meet the requirement for entry onto a particular degree or higher diploma Programme. At the end of the academic year, a satisfactory completion of the course will be demonstrated both through the portfolio, the final assessment grade and the maturity in intellectual and critical skills of the students.
BA in Fashion Design:
The four-year BA Program in Fashion Design allows the students to major in Fashion Design. The successful completion of the one-year Foundation Program is a must, and the students will take a number of specialised courses spread over six semesters and three years. Through these courses they gain knowledge about Concepts of Fashion design and their application, History of Fashion, Fashion techniques, Fashion Illustration, Garment construction, Pattern making, Applied design, Accessory designing and Catwalk presentation. Thus, they learn the fashion concepts from their inception to the final marketing. They are exposed to the fashion scenario, famous designers and their inspirations as well. Also, through an internship programme and links with local and regional industry and organizations abroad, students gain experience of business and commerce in fashion. The Fashion Design programme prepares students for careers in the fashion industry. The students can join the industry at various levels like as designers, merchandisers etc and also as entrepreneurs. Graduates are committed and skilled professional practitioners who are capable of responding in an imaginative way to the changing needs of the marketplace.
BA in Interior Design:
The 4 year BA Program in Interior Design allows the students to major in Interior Design. The successful completion of the one year Foundation Program is a must and the students will take a number of specialised courses spread over six semesters and three years. Through these courses they gain knowledge about solving different problems in Interior Design, Interior Design Illustration and drawing, History of Interior Design, Construction and Technology, Computer drafting etc. The programme of interior Design is designed to meet international standards and to prepare our graduates to work as a professional interior designer, to be creative, confident and forward thinking.
BA in Graphic Design:
The four-year BA Program in Graphic Design allows the students to major in Graphic Design. The successful completion of the one year Foundation Program is a must and the students will take a number of specialised courses spread over six semesters and three years. In Graphic Design studios, students participate in both formal and informal critiques, where they discuss their design. Graphic Design combines art and technology to communicate with the audience. In design the student combine their culture and traditions along with the latest software to create a unique design. The students also learn to create vibrant and efficient communication solutions with the imagination of a designer. The Graphic Design program covers history, typography, cooperate identity, photography, business practice, publication, websites, motion graphics, environmental design, and packaging & 3D graphics. This program helps them communicate and create suitable and powerful solutions to their work. The students not only learn about Graphics, but they are also exposed to the professional world through field trips, internships programs, guest lectures, and workshops.
Master of Design Management:
This will enable the graduates in Art & Design to use new management approaches to manage design enterprises. In today’s competitive world the professionals who want to approach design in a more organized fashion would be benefited from this Masters programme.
Master of Fine Art in Drawing & Painting:
In this programme, emphasis is placed on the development of originality, clarity, and studio discipline to prepare students for professional careers. By focusing on independent studio work, students are encouraged, with faculty assistance, to discover their individual forms of expression. The program involves investigation into contemporary issues challenging students to find those critical ideas that will form their creative output.
