The Royal University for Women (RUW), in collaboration with UN-HABITAT, successfully hosted an insightful Participatory Workshop focusing on the integration of women’s perspectives in sustainable urban development. The event, held at RUW’s campus, brought together experts, faculty, and students to discuss the role of women in shaping inclusive public spaces and sustainable cities.

The workshop featured Mr. Mohammad Dadabai, Associate Program Officer at UN-HABITAT, who introduced the Her City Toolkit, an initiative that promotes women-inclusive urban planning. Dr. Christelle Comair, Head of the Women’s Research Centre (WRC), and Ms. Shurooq Ahmed, Lecturer at the College of Engineering and Technology (CET), presented the Women in Sustainability research project, a key initiative aimed at fostering interdisciplinary research on urban sustainability and gender equity.

A hands-on workshop, led by Ms. Shurooq Ahmed, engaged students from the College of Engineering and Technology in discussions on public parks, sustainability, and urban development, providing them with the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world urban planning challenges.

This event, organized by the Women’s Research Centre (WRC) and the College of Engineering and Technology (CET), highlights RUW’s commitment to sustainability and gender-inclusive urban development. By collaborating with UN-HABITAT, RUW continues to provide students and researchers with the tools and knowledge needed to contribute to more equitable and sustainable urban planning initiatives.
